Forest educational trail Kapelvald
Forest educational trail Kapelvald in Josipdol has been opened since 1993. A wonderful avenue of limes awaits you at the beggining of the trail. Orientation boards indicate all the posts along the way.
Along the trail, observe many tree species (sequoia, Atlas and Lebanon cedar, red beech, Swiss pine, yellow pine, black spruce, black walnut, red oak, etc.).
Next up is to surmount a mild ascent over a hill called Kapelvald, which is owing its name to the shrine on top of it. The trail will guide you past the Church of St. Joseph, which was erected by quarry workers in the previous century.
Continue past the Lenarčič manor and tree nursery to reach the Štručevo plain. From there, continue over the flat land and start to descent back to the main road. Past the village Josipdol you will return to your starting point.
On this educational trail through the forest, visitors can learn about the history of this place. Displayed museum collections and an open-air museum go into detail about forestry, the glass industry and stonemasonry of nearby places. Particular emphasis is given to increasing people's awarness about the fact that preserving natural environment is the first condition to preserving humankind.
