Ribnisko Pohorje

A lively summer and winter resort Ribnisko Pohorje is built on the foundation
of the rich mountain tradition, located in the centre of idyllic village Ribnica na Pohorju.

During the Roman time, the road passed through Ribnica from the Slovenske Konjice
to the Drava River Valley. The origin of the village dates back to 1266 when it was first
mentioned as the Reyvinich.

You can admire the village’s unique history on numerous of cultural and natural
sights. Even today, traditional heritage is very important for the locals and the
entire region.

Glassmaking, stonecutting, forestry, timber rafting and agriculture have shaped
the history of this area of Pohorje and local people, who were, and are still able
to live in the genuine touch with nature.

Pohorje represents the largest system of surface waters in Slovenia.

At the end of the ice age, 8000 years ago, moving glaciers transformed
the surface of Pohorje and created high peat moor, which is a perfect
spot for many very specific animals and plants.

Because of animals and plants diversity, Pohorje is one of the
protected areas of NATURA 2000.
